In a context marked by the flexibilization of labor relations and the growing devaluation of public education, the book Professor S/A: Teaching Work and Teacher Education in Times of Flexible Accumulation offers an urgent reflection: how have teachers experienced recent transformations in the world of work? And what collective strategies have been mobilized in the face of new forms of exploitation, intensification, and individual accountability in teaching?
Organized by Paulo Zangalli Júnior, Luis Paulo Batista da Silva, and Grace Bungenstab Alves, the book combines texts that denounce the commodification of education and analyze its implications for initial and continuing teacher education. Drawing from diverse educational experiences, the chapters reveal how evaluation, productivity, and control policies have shaped the daily routines of schools and universities.
For instance, the chapter by João Manoel Nascimento dos Santos examines how restructuring the PIBID program (Institutional Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program) after 2018 negatively affected the connection between universities, schools, and critical teacher education.
